The following statement is a response by AngloGold Ashanti to the urgent action message CSN sent on April 22, 2008.

A letter plus the above statement was directed to Colombia’s Vice-President Francisco Santos, with a copy to AngloGold in South Africa. It is interesting to note that AngloGold Ashanti has not sent him a copy of this message. It is also remarkable that the multinational openly declares in its response that they call upon the Colombian Army to protect their interests. CSN intents to follow up on AngloGold’s offer to provide specific information concerning their social programs in the Colombian countryside. We will make available to our urgent action subscribers whatever information we receive.
