Colombian protesters attached to the national strike that began on Thursday demand from the Duque government a new social pact respectful of life, peace and the right to development.

Mobilizations take place in all Colombian cities, while in Bogota activists gather from noon in the downtown Plaza Bolivar to claim for demands of the strike held November 21, 2019 and others concerning the Covid-19 health crisis.

The show of discontent towards the Duque government’s management will last for three days and was convened by the workers’ trade unions and other organizations of Colombian civil society.

Among the strike’s demands is to put a stop to the privatization of important resources and entities to the detriment of the State and Colombians; likewise, limit the scope and/or creation of financial companies that manage the accounts of public companies.

The fight against corruption is also on the strike’s list of pending issues in Colombia where, according to the Labor Information Agency, some 50 billion pesos a year disappear (about 14 million dollars at current’s exchange rate). In addition, participants in mobilizations demand not to increase the rate of basic services such as electricity, the non-criminalization of protests, and a way out of the current health crisis.
